This was an opportunity to create a family vacation house at the beach for a homeowner who loved the mountains. These owners loved the trees that were unique to their property.
However, as with many beach communities, the area had very strict zoning regulations and the existing home was on a narrow lot. The design solution maximized every possible bump out, set back and notch to help reduce massing while maximizing the views through the trees. It is an upside down house with the living space on the top floor accessible by elevator and bedrooms below. The design captures the very best views, framed by the trees, and cross breezes on the bright, airy porch and great room.
